AIRLINE EXECUTIVES FEDERAL REGULATION: CASE STUDIES IN AMERICAN ENTERPRISE FROM (Historical Perspectives on Business Enterprise Series)

AIRLINE EXECUTIVES FEDERAL REGULATION: CASE STUDIES IN AMERICAN ENTERPRISE FROM (Historical Perspectives on Business Enterprise Series) Review

This book is a collection of eight case studies of relationships between airline executives and federal regulatory agencies from the passage of the Air Commerce Act in 1926 to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978. By focusing on the lives and personalities of individual entrepreneurs, W. David Lewis and his contributors hope to explore the interaction between technology, government regulation, and entrepreneurship.

Each essay in the book focuses on a particular airline executive, such as Eddie Rickenbacker, Robert Six, and Donald Nyrop. Lewis has been careful to give a variety of perspectives: Airlines of various types are representedlarge and small, scheduled and unscheduled. Some of the executives profiled were known for having adversative relationships with federal regulators, whereas others wholeheartedly accepted regulation and thrived under it.

There have been public calls for a return to airline regulation, and Lewis thinks it is not inconceivable that regulation may ultimately return if problems continue and conditions deteriorate further. But, he says, it is well to remember that deregulation occurred because there were flaws in the regulatory system it replaced. This collection of essaysscholarly and well documented but written in a lively style suitable for specialists and nonspecialists alikeprovides a long-range perspective on the issue of airline deregulation.

Section 1 examines the broad theme of how and what ITS contributes to the economy and how one makes a business case for ITS. Section 2 includes three chapters on ITS applications in mass transit. Section 3 explores ITS applications in the automobile/highway system. Section 4 considers integrative issues including how ITS is perceived and how it can be positioned to improve surface transportation. This volume will be especially useful to researchers and policy makers working in transportation, transportation engineering, and the economic analysis of transportation systems.

Consumer-Oriented Business Design: The Case of Airport Management (Contributions to Management Science) Review

Driven by rapidly changing business environments and more demanding consumers, many organizations are searching for new ways to achieve and retain a competitive advantage. In this context, new strategic frameworks and market research designs are needed that allow managers to synchronize the evolution of new offerings with changes in motivational patterns of consumers. This book presents a new strategic framework and the corresponding market research design which have already been tested successfully by a large empirical study at Munich airport. The framework has provided considerable input for new offering design and, therefore, the business redesign of organizations meeting future requirements of consumers.

Organisational Learning in the Automotive Sector (Routledge Advances in Management and Business Studies) Review

This book considers the concepts of organisational learning and the learning organisation, and critically examines their take up within the context of four contemporary work organisations in the European automotive sector. Within this dynamic environment, the pursuit and implementation of approaches that encourage individuals to learn and challenge existing orthodoxy are now dominant on the management agenda. Changes to processes, structures, cultures and the employment relationship per se.
